The Kick-off theme for weekly Homeschool Memoirs over at the Homeschool Blog Awards is "All About You." Or me, that is. A perfect topic for bloggers because obviously we all like to talk about ourselves to a certain extent.
The meme reads: "This week, we want to hear about YOU. The author behind the words. The Momma behind all the homeschooling kiddos. Just write up something about you, your family, and your home. How long you’ve been homeschooling and why you decided to homeschool. It doesn’t have to be anything lengthy at all, but we’d love to hear it! You might include a family photo too!"

Since today was our first day "back to school," I'll start with a picture of my youngest two in our what is now our school room. This is the living room of our attached apartment. We've never used it as living space because it's been my parents' winter dwelling for the past 8 years. But since they've bought their own southern house just a minute down the road, we've decided to make this into our school room. We've got a long way to go in getting it just the way we want it, but the kids had a great time in it today. And I love not using our own dining room table as school headquarters! I moved our old dining room table (above) into the apartment for school. It's lovely to not have to clear off stacks of books before supper each evening.
Anyway, the rest of this week's meme can be answered in various places on my blog:
* Want to know all kinds of things about me? Get a big cup of coffee and click here. I do ramble a lot about myself on this blog.
* Here's how we got started homeschooling, and here's why we home school: the intangible version and the practical version.
If you manage to click on those four links, you'll know a whole lot about life here in SmallWorld!
I know what you mean about not using the dining room table. That's where I generally do school with my youngest and it tends to get cluttered. I know you're glad to have a schoolroom! I hope you have a great year.
ReplyDeleteWell....wow! You are a writer. You have a link for everything. I have to confess that I did not click every link but the ones I clicked were fun and interesting. Nice pic of your college, BTW. Did you take it from an airplane? LOL
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you at Homeschoolmemoirs. Happy "back to school"
ReplyDeleteAwesome to have a schoolroom!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about the school shooting in Knoxville--what a horrible tragedy. Hope you all are doing well today.
This is from the second oldest brother of whom you quote, "This was a long time ago--over 20 years ago--when homeschooling was a relatively obscure movement. A fringe movement--religious fanatics and hippies."
ReplyDeleteAnd I have to say, that I fit the religious fanatic and hippy description to a T. But then, as PJ O'Rourke so aptly said, "America was founded by religious fanatics with guns".
Now, in the post homeschool years I've only become more fringe, fanatical, hippy, and radical, now, I finally believe to the core that there is no "choice" other than to homeschool just like there was not "choice" in the presidential race EXCEPT Ron Paul (the only candidate that actually followed the constitution from either party, thus, eliminating all of the rest from contention). I think the fanatical, nutty, uncaring, unbiblical, and basically stupid (in a stupor) parents are those who send their kids to evilutionary, perverted, illiterate, thieving, state schools AND, the mass education, robot-education provided by their cousin private schools is NOT much better.
Hooray for your tenacity Sarah and for rescuing your kids from a life of trying to be brainwashed BACK the proper way from State schools.
Your fanatical brother and the biggest homeschool advocate ever.
Hi Friend! Love your new digs...I hope you'll still stop by and comment on my blog once in awhile.
ReplyDeleteI still haven't figured out how to post pics, but *that* will have to wait. I'm trying to learn to use Homeschool Tracker Plus...URG!
The photo of your mom is precious...she looks like a lovely woman.
So, happy back to school! We are in full swing over here, and I am VERY happy to report that so far it is much better than last year!!!!

I'd be nervous about not using my dining room table for school. It forces me to clean up once in awhile. LOL.

I would love to have a separate space for all our homeschool needs! How lucky you are. I've been thinking about telling my husband that I want to finish the garage and make that our homeschool room. Hmmm..... thanks for the inspiration! LOL
