Wordless Wednesday: Argiope

"They might bite if grabbed, but other than for defense they have no interest in biting humans."

That is reassuring, but man, those argiope spiders are big! We usually have one or two big ones that hang out for quite a long time in late summer. For me, they are a sign that fall is on its way. And just to confirm that, we are due to have our first day in two months that is under 90 degrees!

  1. Wow, that is a beautiful spider...and I do not like spiders!
We live in WY now but when in NE we had some of strangest looking spiders I had ever seen. So creepy and mutant looking!
    Thanks for sharing :)
I think I might be ready for some fall weather- maybe.

  2. I was just going to say the same thing as Blossom...I can't stand spiders, but the colors on that one are gorgeous! Is it poisonous?

  3. I just saw one of these in our garden & had no idea was kind it was! The web was unusual looking too. Thanks for letting me know what the heck it was!

  5. I prefer to keep quite a respectful distance from spiders! But I will admit that I find some of them to have very interesting colors and patterns. The webs they design are exquisite works of art.

    This is a great shot!

  6. That is a really colorful spider...I'm pretty sure we don't have those here....I would have noticed!

  7. We don't have those here. Our spiders are pretty much brown, gray, or black. Not very exciting. We have a lot of wolf spiders that live around here. Some of them are so large you can hear their legs clicking and they scurry across the floor. Ick. Not a fan of the arachnids myself.

  8. That really caught Devon's eye! After this evening's cool breeze, I can really believe that fall is imminent.
