About Me

Thanks for visiting SmallWorld at Home. My name is Sarah. I'm in my 40s 50s. I have three amazing, beautiful, smart, funny kids and two kids-in-law that fit our family perfectly. They are the delight of my life; my cup overflows. We homeschooled, and that was a huge part of my world. (If you homeschool, I don't need to explain that.) I have an absolutely amazing husband, known here often as Dr. H. (the "H" stands for Hibiscus). We are empty nesters now! We met in college, when we were 18 and 19. Here's our love story. Oh, and here's some music that was on our mixed tape. You know you had one, too.

Dr. H. is a botanist. I'm a.... I'm a..... what am I? Well...

* Here are all the things I was before I was a homeschooling mom, and here is what I want to be when I grow up.

* I also used to be a baby.

* I have four big brothers, and we were all raised on apples

* I grew up in the 1980s and always dressed fashionably. I was a cheerleader briefly and a swimmer for many years, and I even enjoyed a year or so of modern dance

* Here's where I went to college. If you read my blog much, you won't be surprised to know that I was an English major. For five years we lived in Ames, Iowa, and there Dr. H. got his PhD and I got my master's degree in creative writing.

* Here is my big backyard and here is my house, and this is where I grew up. These are my hometowns. Here's what I was doing 10, 20, 30, and 40 years ago. In case you were wondering.

* I've always been a reader. I read so much that I have another blog just for that: SmallWorld Reads. I'm also a writer, especially of poetry. I've had a few magazine articles about homeschooling published, too, but mostly I just blog. Someday, I'll devote more time to being published.

* These are things I'm passionate about and more, and here are five things that stir my soul. And here is something I did that makes me really proud.

* I am a quiet Christian. I think Jesus was an introvert, and I get that. When He needed to recharge, he went to the hills. Me, too. I like theology, and I enjoy discussions about Jesus and how we can get back to what He started.

* Friends are essential in my life. I can't imagine a life without  our village,.

* My family is incredibly important to me. My Mom and Dad are amazing, and I cherish the extension of our family with weddings and great-grandbabies. Traditions are important around here; we're all about creating memories.

* And so that is what this blog is, really. A big storage box of memories, a record of our own SmallWorld, and a whole lot of musings. Every now and then I hope to leave you with some insights or some practical homeschooling helps. Thanks for reading.
