Sweet Daisy

Yesterday was a hard, hard day. Our sweet pup got hit by a car. Her back was broken, and she had to be put to sleep. Our hearts are broken today.

She wasn't a perfect dog. She barked until my nerves were shattered. She shed great puffs of fur. She pooped on the floor now and then. She sometimes got into the bathroom trash, especially if there was an empty tube of toothpaste in it. She sometimes ran away, just because everything smelled so good and interesting outside.

But she was the best dog for our family. She loved us with every fiber of her being. She protected us. She let the kids dress her up and roll on her. She had the prettiest eyes, and she was happiest when we were all in a room together.

Sigh. This pup—she was part of our family. It's so much easier when cats just wander away.

Goodbye, sweet Daisy.

  3. Oh, I am so sorry. I wouldn't have understood the pain of losing a beloved dog till a couple years ago when one came into our lives. Treasure your happy memories of Daisy.

  4. Dear Sarah - my heart goes out to you and your entire family. You see, we went through a very similar heartbreak on December 8, 2004. My eleven year old Australian Shepherd was also hit by a car, and suffered a broken back. Having her put to sleep was one of the hardest and right things I've ever had to do. The vet said he could "save" her, but she'd never run again and there would be other bodily functions to deal with. We couldn't do that to her - her favorite thing to do was run through the back pasture, you know.

Her purple dog collar and tags hang from the rear view mirror in my car, even now.

Much love and hugs to all of you.

  5. I am so sorry for your family. We had to put our cat down right before Christmas {it was all of a sudden}...my son still tears up over him. :(

  7. So very sorry! It's always hard to have a pet die of old age, but so much harder due to trauma.

  8. Oh I'm so sorry. It's always the hardest part of having pets, making the decision to let go....and the most heartbreaking.
