Homeschool Memoirs #7: Snacks
Today's theme at Homeschool Memoirs is snacks: "There are so many different kinds of snack foods, store-bought and homemade, and I would like to invite you to share what snack foods your family usually snacks on throughout the week."
Um, I'm a boring snack mom. I have pretty much no snack policies, except no candy for breakfast. We all snack lightly every couple of hours. I think we are those people called "grazers." My kids fix their own snacks for the most part. Laurel loves to prepare snacks, so she'll often try various seasonings on popcorn or arrange a plate filled with an assortment of snack items: pretzels, some sort of cracker, fruit. I usually have yogurt, an apple, or a half of a peanut-butter sandwich as a snack.
Of course all snacking depends on what we have in the house to eat. A common cry in our home is, "We don't have any snack food!" But of course what this means is, "We don't have anything that I want to eat at this exact moment."
Probably my kids' favorite snack would be a plate of strawberries with Cool Whip. (Actually, they'd love to have just a giant bowl of Cool Whip, but I can't quite justify that.) But most of the time we just have boring snack food: cereal, pretzels, graham crackers, grapes, celery, carrots, popcorn. I lack the creative snack-mom gene.

Yum, strawberries!
ReplyDelete*mouth watering*
We are boring snackers over here too. :)
ReplyDeleteI am not creative in snacking either and with two diabetics in the house we have to be careful.

My Sweetling could take 30 minutes "arranging" her snack foods just so, if I let her. And I'm absolutely with you on the strawberries :)

Strawberries! Yum! cool whip. I'm with your kids on just eating the cool whip, too. But it is such nasty stuff if you read the label. I confess I like to grab the can of whipped cream and squirt some on my finger. Bad girl!
ReplyDeletewe don't have fancy creative snacks here. That takes time and work. My oldest andI love strawberries!
ReplyDeleteWe love strawberries also . . . when they are in season. Have a blessed week!
ReplyDeleteI think a bowl of cool whip sounds wonderful :P
ReplyDeleteWe're grazers here too. :)
We like our strawberries with powdered sugar! I wish they were in season all year.
ReplyDeleteIf they taste good, they can't be boring. ;) And strawberries with cool whip sounds really good right now. Mmmm.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment! It's nice to know that others like them also, not many have heard of them before.
God Bless,

we love starwberries too. At least my oldest and I. My younger son isn't as crazy about them though LOL. We are pretty boring too when it comes to snack. Thanks for stopping by my blog :).
ReplyDeleteMy kids would also happily eat a bowl full of cool whip, with our without strawberries. Funny!
ReplyDeleteI could totally tell you exactly what happens if you eat an almost full tub of Cool Whip, but you probably don't want to know.
ReplyDeleteharmph.
I also happen to see on your splendiferous sidebar that you had an Australia unit. Too bad I was blind ... the one we did here really stunk.
I am working on ideas for a China lapbook for grades 7/8. Let me know if you have any strokes of brilliance directed thusly.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... stawberries and whip cream. my favorite! actually, strawberries dipped in white and dark chocolate are my favorite.
ReplyDeletebut for general snacking, we usually go with popcorn sprinkled with the powdered cheese packets from the mac and cheese box.
Ohhh... I'm with the kiddos- give me the Cool Whip!! Thanks for coming over to visit my blog!! Have a great week!!

I too lack the creative snack gene. Glad to see I'm not alone!
ReplyDeleteThaks for stopping by my blog. I did the meme off of what mines favorites were. I didn't say they get them all the time but I didn't say they didn't either lol so I guess my list looks bad compared to others but anyway thanks for stopping by my blog. God bless, Pat
ReplyDeleteCoke Gummies are just like gummy worms but only coke flavor and coke bottle shape. They are yummy and a real treat because they are hard to find.
ReplyDeleteHi- visiting some fellow home school blogs for the first time...
ReplyDeleteI don't carry the mom-snack-packing gene either! ;)
I enjoyed visiting here...
I'm a home school mom to two girls, 9 and 6. Stop by anytime!

ReplyDeleteIn Nashville for a speech and thought I see what you are up to these days. Great pic of you and Randy, by the way. Randy looked just too pretty...I might have said yes if he asked me! :)
I agree with the kids - I'd take the tub of Cool Whip! But I can't justify that...
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU for sharing!
