We picked two baskets of strawberries today from our very own strawberry patch. I keep thinking that we need to go to a local farm and pick, but when we're producing this much on our own—wow! I've never been a great vegetable gardener since we moved to the red dirt of Tennessee from the rich soil of Iowa, but somehow the strawberries thrive in spite of the soil quality and my lack of attention. If only I had the ingredients to make shortcake… (I see a grocery shopping trip coming up this evening.)

Wow- strawberry time already! Mine still just have flowers. Soon tho :) There is nothing nicer than a strawberry still warm from the sun!
ReplyDeleteAwesome!!! We have started our very first garden this year. We have planted strawberry seeds, as well, as plants given to us from two diferent friends. We have jsut begun to see lots of fruit. I am so very thankful! I am looking forward to reaping our harvest! Enjoy your shortcake!
ReplyDeleteWe planted a few strawberry plants this season also. I would have alot at this point if the squirrels had not eaten about 10 berries off the vine so far.

Mmmm! Nothin like fresh homegrown strawberries! I don't have any of my own, but I am baking a strawberry, raspberry, rhubarb crumble pie right now! The rhubarb is mine! ;~}
