Imagining a Life at the Walker Sisters' Cabin

Imagine a life spent in this house…

Resting every morning and evening on this front porch …

watching the shadows shift and the seasons change as you look out at this view, familiar as your face in the mirror…

And back in your kitchen, you open the window…

And think how bare and beautiful the woods are in winter…

And you stand for just a minute as the sun comes down…

Thinking you'd better shut the door before the evening chill sets in…

And you go back to your front porch for just a few more minutes, listening to the reassuring sound of this…

  1. beautiful!

we have friends who just moved to red river gorge ky. they have a cabin/retreat center there. recently they were out of electricity for about 3 days. they got water from the spring, had fireplace heat and played games with candlelight at night. your post reminded me of that. sometimes i think i could happily reside in a cabin like the one in your pictures.

  3. That is one of my all time favorite hikes...I even bought the little Walker Sister tourist book one year we visited before living here. I love hikes that center around the "mountain people". Once we were out there and thought we heard a wild boar. Kinda freaked us out just a little. Always such a quiet peaceful place, that is unless boars or bears show up.
